Lake L’ Homme Dieu (LLHD) has minimal natural walleye reproduction. Over the last 10 years, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has stocked 750 to 900 pounds of walleye fingerlings, approximately 11,000 to 16,000 fish each year. The LLHD Association, working with the Viking Sportsmen, matched the DNR stocking from 2008 to 2014. No additional stocking was allowed in 2015 because test netting revealed slow walleye growth. In 2016, we were allowed additional stocking, but the mild winter affected fingerling growth, and our supplier was unable to provide fingerlings. However, the DNR was able to stock 684 pounds of fingerlings and 221 pounds of larger walleye. Our Lake Association hopes to stock fingerlings this Spring. Walleye are the only fish stocked in our lake.
